Community Events
Community events serves as a space to foster dialogue and connection with AANHPI experiences and culture. As a student organization, we welcome everyone within and outside of the University of Colorado-Boulder campus to our weekly meetings and our other events to learn and/or celebrate AANHPI culture.
Our community events include:
-
Book Club
-
Movie Nights
-
Workshops
-
Topic Discussions on AANHPI culture
-
Special Events hosted by other departments on the CU Boulder campus
Through community events we:
-
Increase the visibility of AANHPI experiences inside and outside the CU Boulder campus
-
Educate on how the social and political paradigms of race, gender, sexuality, and other positionalities inform and figure AANHPI and BIPOC experiences
-
Build community through intimacy and vulnerability to promote healing and mindfulness
Book Club
Every month we hold a book club to discuss a book that engages in AANHPI themes, culture, and history. They will be held during our weekly meetings and be facilitated by one of the crew members of AALA. Below, are some of the books we are planning to read or have read.
Movie Nights
Similar to the book club, we hold movie nights to bond and watch a film that is relevant to AANHPI themes, culture, and history. After watching the film, we hold a meeting to discuss in-depth on the material. These are also facilitated by one of the crew members of AALA. Below, are some of the films we have watched and are planning to watch and discuss about.
Workshops
Drawing inspirations from some of the books and films we have discussed, we usually hold creative workshops to encourage people to continue exploring if not embody some of the affects that come from watching and/or discussing about AANHPI culture. These workshops allow for people to engage with AANHPI experiences both personally and reflexively in their own way.
